The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State has returned goods valued at over N10 million to the families of victims involved in a road accident.

The items were recovered from the scene of the crash, which took place on March 23 near a checkpoint in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area.

Speaking during the handover on Saturday in Akure, the FRSC Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, said the gesture reflected the Corps’ commitment to transparency and integrity.

He explained that the crash involved a commercial bus and a trailer and was caused by speeding, which led to a rear-end collision.

Although no lives were lost, the bus driver and his assistant sustained serious injuries to their legs and hands.

Dr. Ibitoye said the recovered items, including bags of fabrics and other valuable goods being transported from Kano to Ibadan, were collected on behalf of the victims by their union leader.

“The FRSC is built on integrity.

We ensure that everything recovered from crash scenes, even down to a pin, is returned to the rightful owners or their families. Nothing goes missing,” he stated.

He urged drivers, especially those traveling long distances, to avoid speeding and overloading, and to take regular breaks to prevent fatigue-related accidents.

Receiving the goods on behalf of the victims, Rabiu Subaru, Chairman of the Hummer Bus, Trailer, and J5 Unit in Shasha, Akure, thanked the FRSC for their honesty and support.

He confirmed that the injured driver and motor boy had been treated at a hospital in Akure before being moved to Gombe State for further care.

Mr. Subaru also praised the FRSC for paying the victims’ initial hospital bills and staying with them until their families arrived.

“All the items were returned exactly as handed over to me by the owners. No one asked me for a single naira,” he said.
