Wife of abducted Delta pensioner appeals to IGP for help

The wife of a retired director from the Delta State Post-Primary Education Board, Mr. Emmanuel Ofobrukueta, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene in securing her husband’s release after three months in captivity.

Mr. Ofobrukueta, 66, was kidnapped by armed men on January 13, 2025, outside his home in Mosogar, near Sapele, just a day before he was set to travel to Asaba to process his pension.

He retired from public service six years ago.

In a letter to the IGP, sent through the law firm of Frank Tietie, Mrs. Theresa Ofobrukueta expressed frustration that her husband remains in captivity despite the involvement of the Delta State Police Command and the payment of ransom.

Speaking to journalists in Sapele, she revealed that the kidnappers initially demanded N40 million but eventually agreed to N4.2 million, which was paid on January 15 through a designated agent.

She lamented that despite the payment, the kidnappers have not released her husband.

She urged the police to step in with a special operation to locate and rescue him, noting that the local police command appears overwhelmed.

The family’s letter also raised concerns about possible internal involvement, pointing to suspicious developments following the ransom payment and intelligence from a private tracking firm.

It suggested that a network involving close associates of the victim may be working with the kidnappers to prolong his captivity.

They urged the Inspector General to order a thorough investigation and initiate urgent measures to secure Mr. Ofobrukueta’s release.
