Zulum orders immediate petrol ban in Bama over security concerns

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has ordered an immediate ban on petrol sales in Bama Local Government Area, including Bama town and Banki, in response to ongoing security concerns.

The directive, announced after consultations with security agencies, aims to support efforts in combating insurgency in the region.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Malam Dauda Iliya, confirmed the decision in a statement released Saturday in Maiduguri.

“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area,” Zulum said, adding that anyone who violates the order will face strict legal consequences.

“There will be no sacred cows in enforcing this ban.

Security agencies have been instructed to clamp down on any individual or filling station that disobeys,” he warned.

Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in Borno and urged residents to support efforts to end insurgency.

The move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to cut off resources and restrict the movement of insurgents in affected areas.
