Senator Natasha’s tiktok video praising Tinubu sparks defection speculation

Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stirred speculation over a possible defection on Saturday after posting a TikTok video in which she appeared to enjoy a song praising President Bola Tinubu.

The 15-second clip showed Akpoti-Uduaghan smiling and nodding along to “Asiwaju Omo Ologo,” a track performed by Kano musician Dauda Kahutu (Rarara) during Tinubu’s recent visit to Katsina. The title of the song translates to “Asiwaju, the glorious child.”

The video, which quickly gained attention online, left many of her supporters puzzled, questioning whether she intends to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, it remains unclear whether the video signals a political shift or is simply a satirical jab at the ruling party.

Attempts to reach the senator or her media aide, Israel Arogbonlo, for clarification were unsuccessful.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has been under suspension since March 6 after a dispute with Senate leadership over seating arrangements, which she alleged were part of a broader effort to undermine her.

The situation escalated when she publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of retaliating against her for rejecting alleged sexual advances.

At a recent event at the United Nations, she called for international oversight on the Nigerian Senate, criticizing the suspension and additional penalties such as the withdrawal of security and salary cuts.

A court has since ordered both parties to refrain from public comments until the legal proceedings conclude. Despite this, Akpoti-Uduaghan posted a satirical “Apology Letter” last Sunday, just days after Akpabio led a government delegation to the Vatican.
