The Ondo State command of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, has successfully rescued five kidnap victims without paying the N150 million ransom demanded by their abductors.

Commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday in Akure.

He said the victims were rescued on May 6 and May 10 as a result of the corps’ increased operations in forested areas across the state.

Adeleye explained that four of the victims were abducted on May 10 at Iromeh, along the Lagos-Ore Expressway. The kidnappers reportedly demanded N100 million for their release.

“Within minutes of the incident, we received a distress call and mobilised our operatives to pursue the kidnappers into the forest,” he said.

The fifth victim was abducted earlier on May 6 along the Ikare-Owo Road. Adeleye noted that although the kidnappers demanded N50 million, the victim was rescued without any ransom paid, despite sustaining machete injuries.

He is currently receiving treatment at an Amotekun medical facility.

“Our response was based on credible intelligence,” Adeleye stated. “We assure the public that all information provided will be handled with strict confidentiality and swift action.”

He also emphasized that Amotekun officers are on round-the-clock patrols, with rangers stationed in the forests to respond quickly to any threats.

“The Ondo State Government is fully committed to the safety of its residents,” Adeleye added.

“We are maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against crime, kidnapping, and armed robbery.”
