A public altercation broke out on Monday between the traditional ruler of Igbokoda, Oba Odidiomo Afolabi Oladimeji, the Olu of Igbokoda, and an unidentified community leader.
The incident occurred in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, shortly before the official flag-off of the 27.5km Igbokoda–Okitipupa dual carriageway project, which was to be inaugurated by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
According to eyewitnesses, tensions escalated when Oba Oladimeji arrived at the venue and allegedly demanded that the other man vacate his seat, which was beside another traditional ruler. The man reportedly refused, leading to a confrontation.
An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, told Roving Reporters that the monarch, angered by the refusal, allegedly struck the man with a staff he was holding.
This action reportedly sparked a physical fight between the two men.
During the scuffle, the monarch was said to have sustained an injury after being bitten on the ear.
He was later seen leaving the venue for medical attention and did not attend the event.
Attempts by Roving Reporters to reach Oba Oladimeji for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his mobile phone went unanswered.
However, sources close to the palace confirmed the altercation took place.
The incident has since drawn mixed reactions on social media.
A local resident identified as Omono Ilaje condemned the incident in a statement, describing it as unfortunate and unbefitting of leaders in the community.
