An unidentified man fell from one of the upper floors of the historic Cocoa House building in Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early hours of Monday, prompting confusion among bystanders and business owners in the area.
Odu’a Investment Company Limited, the firm that manages the Cocoa House complex, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Head of Branding and Communication, Victor Ayetoro.
According to the statement, the man received immediate attention from the building’s emergency response team and was promptly taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for urgent medical care.
The company expressed deep concern over the incident and assured the public of its full cooperation with ongoing investigations to determine the cause of the fall.
An eyewitness, Mr. Bolaji, a phone technician working near the Post Office adjacent to Cocoa House, described the moment of the fall.
“At first, I thought it was a bird falling from the sky. It wasn’t until the person landed that I realized it was a human being. I was too shocked to even reach for my phone.”
He added that the individual struck a roof beside the building’s security post before hitting the ground.
While some witnesses speculated that the man may have been working in the building or may have intentionally jumped, the exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain uncertain as investigations continue.
