Demonstrators took to the streets of Abuja on June 12 to protest worsening economic hardship and growing insecurity across the country.
In anticipation of the protest, security agencies deployed heavily armed personnel to key areas of the Federal Capital Territory.
Officers were stationed at major intersections, near the National Assembly, and at other likely protest zones to prevent unrest.
Despite the heightened security, protesters began their march in the Apo district of Abuja.
Marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day, they chanted solidarity songs and held up placards to voice their dissatisfaction with the current state of the nation.
