The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Saturday, June 14 to Monday, June 16.

In its weather outlook released on Friday in Abuja, NiMet said early morning thunderstorms are expected on Saturday in parts of Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa. Later in the day, storms and rainfall are likely in Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Sokoto, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kaduna.

For the North-Central region, morning storms are predicted in Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), followed by more thunderstorms in Kwara and Kogi later in the day.

In the South, cloudy skies are expected in the morning with chances of rainfall in Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.

By afternoon, scattered thunderstorms may affect areas including Imo, Abia, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Edo, and Delta.

On Sunday, morning thunderstorms are likely in parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba.

Later in the day, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Bauchi.

The North-Central states will continue to experience cloudy intervals with potential thunderstorms, especially in Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Niger, and the FCT.

In the South, morning storms are expected in Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Cross River, with more widespread rainfall across the region by evening.

By Monday, morning thunderstorms are forecast for Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba, with further storms expected in Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi, and surrounding areas later in the day.

North-Central states, including the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, and Benue, will see a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms.

Southern states such as Ogun, Edo, Ondo, Delta, and Bayelsa are also expected to experience rain, especially in the afternoon and evening.

NiMet warned that strong winds may precede rainfall in some areas and advised the public to take necessary precautions.

Residents should secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy rain, and stay away from tall trees.

The agency also urged airline operators to obtain updated flight weather reports and advised the public to stay informed via NiMet’s official website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
