An estimated 200 people, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and five soldiers, are feared dead following coordinated attacks on Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attacks, which occurred late Friday night, were reportedly carried out by suspected armed herders.
The assailants stormed the communities in what witnesses described as a well-planned and brutal assault.
Details remain sketchy, but local sources say the death toll could rise as more bodies are being recovered from surrounding areas.
Security forces have reportedly been deployed to the affected communities to restore order and assess the situation.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but the incident has sparked widespread fear and outrage across the state, which has seen repeated violence linked to herder-farmer clashes.
