The Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has recovered several vehicles stolen in Nigeria and trafficked across borders, including arrests made in Ghana.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, a major breakthrough came when INTERPOL NCB Abuja, in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Accra, recovered a 2020 Toyota Prado in Accra, Ghana. The vehicle, owned by a Nigerian Federal Government agency, had been stolen during a robbery in Abuja.
Three suspects were arrested in Ghana and charged in court in Accra.
The vehicle has since been returned to Nigeria and handed back to the agency.
In a separate operation, a 2018 Toyota Hilux—also belonging to a Nigerian government agency—was recovered after being stolen from an official in Abuja’s Utako District on October 18, 2024.
INTERPOL NCB Abuja, working with INTERPOL NCB Niamey, tracked the vehicle to Agadez in Niger Republic.
It was handed over at the Nigeria–Niger border (Ilela/Konni) to a senior agency representative.
Efforts are also underway to recover two more vehicles—a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV—stolen in Abuja in May 2025 and sold in Niamey, Niger Republic.
The recoveries highlight the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to fighting transnational crime through international collaboration.
