The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the recent wave of violence in Benue State that left over 200 people dead, urging the Federal Government to act swiftly and decisively.

In a statement released on Monday and signed by CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the association expressed deep sorrow over the killings and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

“We are deeply troubled by the coordinated attacks in Benue State, which have caused unimaginable suffering and loss,” the statement read.

“These senseless acts of violence are a tragic reminder of the growing insecurity across our nation.”

CAN criticized the ongoing failure to protect lives and prosecute those responsible, saying this has only encouraged further bloodshed.

The association called for urgent government intervention, including the deployment of additional security forces to at-risk communities and, if necessary, the declaration of a state of emergency in the hardest-hit areas.

In addition, CAN demanded a transparent investigation and swift prosecution of the perpetrators, emphasizing that justice is essential to ending the cycle of violence.

“We call on the international community to support Nigeria in efforts to restore peace and rebuild trust in Benue and other affected regions,” the statement continued.

Reaffirming its commitment to the sanctity of human life, CAN urged all stakeholders to unite in protecting the lives and dignity of all Nigerians.

“May peace be restored, and may justice roll down like waters,” the statement concluded.
