Two individuals suspected of being involved in kidnapping activities have been apprehended by the Ondo State Police Command in Epinmi Akoko, located in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area. Security personnel also recovered a number of weapons believed to be linked to their criminal operations.
The arrests, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, June 18, 2025, were based on actionable intelligence, according to a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola.
DSP Ayanlade revealed that the operation was a collaborative effort between police officers and local vigilante members.
During the operation, one of the suspects, Arohunmolase Idowu, was found moving suspiciously around 12:30 a.m. in the Araromi Isalu area of Epinmi Akoko and was subsequently detained for questioning.
Idowu’s inability to provide a credible reason for his presence at that time led to further investigation, which resulted in the arrest of another suspect, Bada Tosin, aged 26, who also hails from the same community.
Both suspects later guided law enforcement officers to a remote building hidden within the forest. A search of the location uncovered two locally-fabricated dane guns, four cutlasses, four axes, various charms, and several other harmful items.
In addition to the weapons, the police discovered a deep pit within the compound, which is suspected to have been used for detaining kidnap victims.
The arrested suspects and the confiscated items have been handed over to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit for detailed investigation.
The police spokesperson reassured the public that thorough efforts are ongoing to fully uncover the scope of the suspects’ activities and ensure that all those connected to the crimes are brought to justice.
