Two young men, Aina Samuel (25) and Umaru Yusuf (20), were on Tuesday brought before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over the alleged theft of mobile phones valued at over N2 million.
The duo, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, malicious damage, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
They pleaded not guilty to all charges.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Adegeshin Famuyiwa, the incident occurred on June 10 at a shop located at No. 1 Itoikin Road, Ikorodu.
He alleged that the suspects unlawfully broke into the store belonging to one Omolara Adams and stole three Samsung phones worth N2.013 million.
He also claimed they caused damage to the shop and acted in a disruptive manner.
Famuyiwa noted that the offences violated Sections 411, 287, 307, and 168(D) of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
Under the law, stealing carries a penalty of up to three years imprisonment, while conspiracy attracts a two-year sentence.
Presiding over the matter, Magistrate A.O. Ogbe granted each defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until July 31 for further hearing.
