The Kano State Police Command has arrested four members of a suspected tricycle-snatching syndicate, including a 25-year-old woman, and recovered six stolen tricycles in a recent operation.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, the arrests were made following a sting operation on June 17, 2025, in the Kura Local Government Area.
The operation was based on credible intelligence received by the Command.
Two principal suspects—Auwal Mohammed, 30, of Hotoro Quarters, and Maryam Ibrahim, 25, of Bauchi State—were apprehended after allegedly attempting to steal a tricycle by drugging its operator, Shu’aibu Aliyu.
“The suspects tried to dispossess the victim after administering drugs on him.
However, a prompt response from our operatives led to their immediate arrest and the recovery of the tricycle,” DSP Abdullahi said.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two suspected receivers of stolen goods: Suleiman Lawal, also known as Aljan, 25, of Sheka Quarters, and Muhammad Tajuddeen, 32, of Kundila Quarters.
All four suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
The statement also revealed that six stolen tricycles have so far been recovered in connection with the syndicate’s activities.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to curbing criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents whose tricycles may have been stolen to visit the Command Headquarters in Bompai or contact the Police Public Relations Office via 07014601313 for possible identification and recovery.
The Command further advised tricycle operators and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behavior in their communities.
