The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected fraudsters allegedly involved in the diversion and unlawful conversion of cement shipments across Anambra, Edo, Rivers, and Delta states.

The suspects, identified as Mmaduabuchi Udo and Abubakar Babangida, were apprehended on June 23, 2025, in Abuja by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit, following an intelligence-driven investigation.

In a statement on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the suspects were part of a syndicate that targets cement dealers through social media.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects used social media platforms to profile cement dealers and extract sensitive business information from unsuspecting victims,” Ikenga said.

“They then exploited this data to divert cement consignments meant for legitimate businesses.”

He warned business owners to exercise caution when sharing operational details online, noting that social media continues to be a tool exploited by criminal elements.

Ikenga further disclosed that the suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and have provided valuable information aiding efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate. He added that they will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, reiterated the Command’s dedication to safeguarding lives, property, and the economic well-being of residents.

The police urged the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency contact numbers.
