We ‘ll maximise our tourism potential for economic growth, Aiyedatiwa

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state has restated his administration’s determination to promote tourism as a socio-economic development lever.

The governor made the statement on Thursday at the 9th annual general meeting and conference of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), held at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Represented by his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, the governor acknowledged the immense contribution of tourism to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of any nation.

He said his administration is deeply focusing on preserving the existing tourist sites in Ondo state in order to attract local and foreign tourists.

“We have a lot of tourists sites in the state that would help us create more jobs for our people, boost our economy and generate revenue.

“Sites like the Idanre Hills, Araromi beach, Igbo Olodumare and Ebomi lake, among others would soon receive attention. We will maximize our tourism potential for economic growth. ” the governor assured.

Addressing the participants, Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), Aare Abisoye Fagade, called for a regulatory framework for hospitality and tourism sector.

In her remarks, NATOP President, Hajia Bolaji Mustapha, harped on strategic promotion of tourism and value creation.

“As tour operators and key players in the industry, we have the responsibility and opportunity to spotlight these assets, create economic values and empower tourism entrepreneurs, especially at the grassroots level” Mustapha said.

The event had in attendance, top government officials and industry players, including Secretary to State Government of Ondo, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff to Ondo State Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Commissioners-designate, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu and Dr. Tob Loko, Chairman of La Champagne Tropicana, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, among many others.
