President Paul Biya of Cameroon has formally announced his intention to run for an eighth term in the country’s upcoming presidential election scheduled for October.
The 92-year-old leader made the declaration on Sunday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), signaling his desire to extend his decades-long grip on power.
“I will be contesting in the presidential election on October 12, 2025. My resolve to continue serving you remains firm, especially given the significant challenges we face,” Mr. Biya stated.
“Together, we can overcome any obstacle. The best days lie ahead.”
Mr. Biya has held the office since 1982, making him one of the world’s longest-serving leaders.
He will be representing the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) once again in the forthcoming election.
