A coalition of opposition parties and stakeholders from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a strategic alliance aimed at removing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Uba Sani from power in Kaduna State come 2027.
Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, leaders of the coalition—including former members of the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party—vowed to unite forces to end divisive politics and promote inclusive, people-driven development.
The statement was delivered by Malam Salihu Mohammed Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), on behalf of the coalition.
The initiative was endorsed by notable opposition figures such as Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Dr. John Ayuba, Senator Musa Bello, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati.
Lukman criticised the current leadership in Kaduna, accusing it of deepening citizens’ hardship through discriminatory and self-centered governance, despite coming into power on a wave of public discontent.
He revealed that the coalition had adopted the ADC as its political platform for the 2027 elections and had already begun grassroots mobilisation across all 23 local government areas and 255 wards in the state.
To avoid repeating the failures of traditional political structures, Lukman emphasized that no individual would be allowed to hijack the ADC for personal ambition.
He also said that governorship aspirations would be put on hold until the party’s foundation was solidly established.
“This is the end of godfatherism in Kaduna politics. We are building a party where every stakeholder has a voice, and collective decisions take precedence,” he declared.
The coalition’s Kaduna strategy is modeled after a broader national opposition framework aimed at presenting a unified presidential candidate to defeat President Bola Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
Lukman urged opposition politicians in the state to uphold tolerance and internal democracy, cautioning that the very culture of imposition and power abuse they seek to end must not be replicated.
Regarding concerns over leadership tenure in the ADC, he clarified that the party’s Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, had assured all state chairmen of their continued positions until formal guidelines are issued.
He also disclosed plans for a statewide membership registration drive, with details on registration centres to be announced soon.
The coalition maintained that only a transparent, democratic party structure can produce the kind of visionary leadership needed to rescue Kaduna and Nigeria at large.
