Top political figures and former government officials converged on Katsina State on Tuesday for the burial of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Security was tight across Daura, Buhari’s hometown, with operatives from the Department of State Services, Nigeria Police, and Nigerian Army deployed to strategic points.
Traffic was diverted and crowd control measures enforced as thousands gathered to pay their final respects.
Among the early arrivals were former Vice Presidents Yemi Osinbajo and Atiku Abubakar; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and ex-Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
Also present were former governors Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), and Ali Modu Sheriff (Borno), a former PDP National Chairman.
Notable business magnate Aliko Dangote, former Communications Minister Isa Pantami, and ex-Women Affairs Minister Pauline Tallen also attended.
More dignitaries—including President Bola Tinubu, religious leaders, and traditional rulers—are expected as the funeral ceremonies continue.
