The Niger State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious thug and robber, 23-year-old Hussaini Usman, popularly known as El-Hussain, in Minna.
Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun disclosed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, noting that the suspect was apprehended on July 10 at about 2:30 p.m. by operatives of the ‘A’ Division following credible intelligence.
Usman, who resides on Kuta Road in Minna, was found in possession of a sharp knife and suspected marijuana at the time of his arrest.
He had reportedly been terrorising parts of Minna, including Ogbomoso Road, where he allegedly robbed a salesgirl of motorcycle parts, snatched phones, and engaged in frequent street fights.
“He also terrorised residents in areas such as Ungwar-Sarki and Paida,” Abiodun stated.
During interrogation, Usman reportedly identified other members of his gang, leading to a follow-up operation on July 12 at about 3:00 a.m., when nine additional suspects were arrested in Ungwar-Sarki and Ogbomoso Street.
The police said they were caught with various dangerous weapons.
In a separate operation, police operatives in Suleja arrested a suspected drug dealer, Elijah Mathew, on July 13 around 3:30 p.m.
The suspect, a resident of Sabon-Kaida in Gurara LGA, was found with two and a half bags of suspected marijuana.
Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Moses Obi of Maje, Suleja, who confessed to owning the seized drugs and revealed he bought them from a dealer identified as Aminu from Deidei, Abuja, who is currently at large.
The police confirmed that all suspects are still under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further action.
