Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued 11 kidnap victims, including two serving police inspectors, during a series of coordinated raids in Benue State.
The operation, which took place between Saturday and Sunday, August 2–3, was conducted in Tse-Ahur and Chito communities in Ukum Local Government Area.
According to OPWS Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, the rescue was part of intensified efforts to tackle rampant abductions in the Sankera axis of the state.
“Eleven persons, including two police officers, were rescued at Tse-Ahur and Chito during the raid,” General Gara told journalists during a press briefing in Makurdi on Monday. “The victims comprise four females and seven males.
They are currently receiving medical care and will be reunited with their families after proper profiling.”
He added that two suspects were arrested during the operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects served as an armourer for the kidnappers,
