Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested two suspects in separate operations for alleged drug trafficking and burglary.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who described the operations as part of the agency’s intensified efforts to curb criminal activity across the state.

According to the statement, the first suspect, 42-year-old Basiru Ahmed, was apprehended in the Salanta area of Gwale Local Government for allegedly dealing in cannabis.

“NSCDC personnel arrested the suspect in possession of over 106 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp,” the spokesperson said, noting that the arrest followed credible intelligence.

The suspect was reportedly caught in the act of selling and distributing the illegal substance and has since been transferred to the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

In a related development, 22-year-old Muhammad Abbas was arrested in Gurungawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, for allegedly burgling residential homes and stealing property valued in the hundreds of thousands of naira.

“The suspect had been on our watchlist and was eventually apprehended during a targeted patrol to tackle theft and related crimes in the area,” the NSCDC stated.

The Corps confirmed that all suspects would be formally charged upon completion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the agency called on residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information that could assist in ridding communities of criminal elements.
