The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 49 suspects in a two-day crackdown on drug dens across Kano State.
According to a statement by the NDLEA Kano Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the raids were carried out on August 7 and 8 in a coordinated effort to curb drug trafficking and abuse.
On August 7, operatives stormed notorious hotspots, including Massallacin Idi, Fagge Plaza, Kofar Mata, Kofar Wambai, Kofar Dan’agundi, Makabartar Dan’agundi, Ladanai, Zage, and Tashar Rimi at Rimi Market, arresting 34 suspects.
The following day, raids at Kano Line Motor Park and Tashar Rami Motor Park in Na’ibawa led to the arrest of another 15 suspects.
Recovered items included cannabis sativa, Pregabalin, diazepam, codeine syrup, Rohypnol, “suck and die,” rubber solution, and locally made weapons.
State Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug joints and disrupt the networks of dealers.
“Since the elevation of the NDLEA’s operations to a strategic command level, there has been a notable increase in the effectiveness and scope of our work,” Idris-Ahmad stated, commending NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa, for his leadership and support.
He warned those engaged in drug trafficking to desist, stressing that the agency will sustain its offensive against illicit drug activities.
The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. They are expected to be charged in court upon conclusion of the probe.
