The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 63-year-old woman, Ngozi Muotuanya, for alleged involvement in interstate child trafficking.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said in a statement on Wednesday that operatives attached to the Oba Division apprehended the suspect on August 11 following credible intelligence.

According to Ikenga, preliminary investigations revealed that Muotuanya allegedly stole a one-year-old boy in Minna, Niger State, in 2024 and sold him to an unsuspecting buyer in Anambra. She later resold the child to another person.

On August 4, the second buyer, upon learning the child had been stolen, returned him to the suspect, who allegedly abandoned the boy at an unidentified church in Minna.

The child was later rescued by the leader of the Igbo community in the area.

Ikenga said the command had shared details about the child’s custodian in Minna with the Niger State Police Command to aid recovery and reunification with his parents.

The suspect is to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation and prosecution.
