Ondo police seize hard drugs in Ifedore, move against unmarked vehicles, masked riders

The Ondo State Police Command has intercepted a vehicle conveying large quantities of crystal methamphetamine and other illicit drugs in Ifedore Local Government Area.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the interception took place on August 17 at about 12:15 p.m. during a stop-and-search operation at Ilaramokin. The operation, led by ASP Amos Ayuba, also revealed that the vehicle was fitted with a fake number plate reportedly stolen from another car.

All suspects linked to the incident have been arrested and are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing.

Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Adebowale Lawal, ordered an immediate crackdown on unmarked vehicles, covered number plates, unauthorized dealer and student union plates, as well as masked motorcyclists.

He directed officers to impound such vehicles or motorcycles and prosecute offenders once investigations are concluded.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Commissioner met with representatives of commercial motorcyclists in the state to sensitize them on the new directives.

He warned that anyone found using motorcycles to conceal criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.

Lawal further revealed that intelligence at the Command’s disposal indicated that some criminal groups were infiltrating communities with unmarked vehicles, fake plate numbers and disguised motorcyclists to evade detection.

He stressed that the new enforcement drive was necessary to counter such tactics.

The Commissioner assured residents that the Command remains committed to intelligence-led and proactive policing, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant, security-conscious and law-abiding, while promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
