The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Kingsley Chinamezu, popularly known as Power Sharp, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Miss Confidence Sunny, 44, in Etche Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, disclosing that the incident occurred on July 30 in Umuebule community, where the suspect reportedly hacked the victim to death with a machete.

According to Iringe-Koko, Chinamezu fled the state after the crime but continued to threaten the deceased’s family.

Following a petition from the family, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) to take over the investigation.

She said operatives, acting on intelligence, traced the suspect to his hideout in Egbeta village, Edo State, where he was arrested on August 15.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and narrated the events leading to the murder,” Iringe-Koko stated, adding that he was undergoing further investigation and profiling for possible links to other criminal activities.

CP Adepoju commended the AKU operatives for their swift action, assuring residents that Rivers State would not serve as a safe haven for criminals.

“Those who commit heinous crimes must know that the law will catch up with them, and they will face the full wrath of justice,” he warned.
