The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 47-year-old man, Alex Omosivie, for alleged human trafficking and rescued two of his victims in Uyo.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that Omosivie, a native of Edo State, was apprehended on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at about 9:30 a.m. in a hotel on Ring Road 3, Uyo, following credible intelligence.

According to her, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who is a deportee from another African country, had recently trafficked two young women: 18-year-old Odo Asuquo Asuquo, sent to Libya in July 2025, and 16-year-old Glory Asuquo Asuquo, trafficked to Burkina Faso on August 18, 2025.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, admitting he was paid ₦50,000 for each victim.

The parents of the trafficked girls have been contacted to provide statements,” the police spokesperson said.

She added that during the arrest, police operatives successfully rescued two other victims, whose names were withheld for security reasons.

John further explained that investigations are ongoing to apprehend Omosivie’s accomplices and dismantle the trafficking network.
