Former U.S. President Joe Biden has undergone surgery for skin cancer after recent images showed the 82-year-old with a visible bandage and scar on his forehead.
According to Fox News, Biden’s spokesperson confirmed that he received Mohs surgery, a precise procedure that removes cancerous skin cells layer by layer while preserving healthy tissue.
The exact type of cancer treated was not disclosed.
The development drew public attention after Biden was seen leaving a Delaware church over the Labour Day weekend with a mark on his forehead.
Spokesperson Kelly Scully said the surgery was performed carefully to ensure complete removal of cancer cells while minimising skin damage.
This is not Biden’s first encounter with skin cancer.
In early 2023, while serving as president, he had a basal cell carcinoma removed from his chest, with doctors confirming no further treatment was required.
Biden has faced other health challenges in recent years. In May 2025, he revealed a diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.
Despite this, he has continued to remain active in public life and has often spoken about resilience in the face of illness.
“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” he wrote on social media.
The Biden family has endured multiple battles with cancer.
His late son, Beau Biden, died of brain cancer, while First Lady Jill Biden had two cancerous skin lesions removed in 2023.
At 82, Biden remains the oldest living former U.S. president. His health challenges have underscored the importance of regular check-ups, early detection, and timely treatment.
Medical experts stress that skin and prostate cancers are often treatable if identified early.
The American Cancer Society advises regular screenings, recommending prostate-specific antigen tests from age 50 for men at average risk, and from 45 for those with higher risks, including Black men and those with family history.
