Kaduna State authorities have arrested six members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) following the death of a 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Idris, who allegedly suffered fatal torture while in their custody in Rahama village, Soba Local Government Area.
Idris was arrested on September 6, 2025, over allegations of shopbreaking and theft.
Witnesses said he was subjected to severe beatings that left him with visible head and body injuries before he was taken to Mazadu Nursing and Maternity Home, where doctors confirmed him dead.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama drew public attention to the case in a social media post on Monday, sparking outrage across communities in the state.
The Kaduna Police Command confirmed the arrest of the six JTF personnel—identified as Adamu Umar, Surajo Hassan, Idris Muhammad, Bashari Umar, Sabo Haruna, and Alabaru Yahaya—alongside the complainant, shop owner Buhari Khalid, who had reported the theft.
Idris’s remains have been released to his family for burial under Islamic rites.
No autopsy was carried out, a development that has raised questions about accountability and transparency in cases involving security operatives.
Human rights activist Amina Yusuf condemned the incident, describing it as “a tragic reminder that security forces must operate within the law” and stressing that “torture has no place in our communities.”
