A fire outbreak on Tuesday morning razed six rooms in a private residence at Akinsoji Zone, Ogbere Moradeyo, Oremeji area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement to journalists.
He said the agency received a distress call at 5:55 a.m. from a resident, Mr. Kayode, and immediately dispatched firefighters led by CFS Adesina Olusoji to the scene.
According to him, the building, a six-room apartment, was already engulfed in flames when officers arrived.
Firefighters from both the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command, collaborated to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby houses.
Though no lives were lost, the building suffered extensive damage.
Preliminary investigations traced the cause of the fire to a cigarette stub carelessly discarded by one of the occupants, which ignited nearby combustibles.
Mr. Akinwande advised residents to install fire extinguishers in their homes to enable quick response in the event of similar emergencies.
