The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued two women from kidnappers following a gun battle in the Kpaduma III area of Abuja.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the rescue operation took place around 9:15 p.m. on September 15 along Kobi Village Road.
According to her, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, personally led the response team alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), the Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Rapid Response Squad, and the Divisional Police Officer of Asokoro Division.
“On sighting the police team, the assailants opened fire, using two female victims as human shields in an attempt to escape.
The police team, however, engaged them in a fierce chase and successfully rescued the two victims unhurt,” Adeh said.
She added that two local vigilantes sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange.
Both were rushed to the National Hospital, where one was later confirmed dead, while the other is receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery of officers involved in the operation and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased vigilante.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity for prompt police response.
