The United States has warned that corrupt high-profile Nigerians risk being barred from obtaining visas as part of its renewed drive to promote accountability and combat graft.
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria disclosed this in a post on its official X handle yesterday, stressing that corruption will not be overlooked regardless of the status of those involved.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. Visas,” the U.S. government said.
The warning comes against the backdrop of President Donald Trump’s tough immigration measures aimed at curbing irregular migration into the country.
Official figures from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security indicate that more than two million undocumented immigrants have been deported since Trump began his second term in office.
