The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a security guard identified as Godday over the alleged abduction and assault of a 14-year-old girl in the Mothercat area of Trans-Amadi, Port Harcourt.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Trans-Amadi Police Division with support from security personnel attached to a nearby bank.
The victim’s mother, who spoke with journalists but withheld her identity to avoid stigma, said she had sent her daughter to withdraw money from an Automated Teller Machine when the incident occurred.
According to her, the teenager was followed by the suspect and later forced into a bank facility where he worked as a guard.
She added that her daughter sustained injuries during the ordeal and some money she had withdrawn went missing.
The matter was immediately reported to the police, and the girl was taken to hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect had been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
She added that the victim is receiving treatment while the facility where the incident occurred has been secured.
Meanwhile, the Association Against Child Sexual Abuse and Gender-Based Violence in Rivers State has called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
