The Plateau State Police Command has arrested over a dozen suspects linked to kidnapping and other crimes, including a 20-year-old man caught delivering food and supplies to a kidnap syndicate in Jos North.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, told journalists on Thursday that the suspect, Auwal Mohammed of Tilde Fulani in Toro LGA, Bauchi State, was apprehended by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Mazah community while transporting loaves of bread, cigarettes, custard, tea, glucose, a cutlass, a torchlight, and a mobile phone believed to belong to a victim.
Adesina said Mohammed confessed to being part of a gang operating between Plateau and Bauchi states, adding that he was on a supply mission while his colleagues awaited ransom payment.
The CP also announced the arrest of three other suspects linked to kidnapping in Bassa LGA, the rescue of a victim identified as Ebuka, and the recovery of locally fabricated firearms from several others.
“We are determined to rid Plateau of criminal elements.
All suspects in custody will be charged to court after investigations,” Adesina assured, while urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to aid security operations.
He noted that security surveillance had been intensified across the state, especially during the “Ember Months,” when crime rates typically increase.
