Family begs for answer after six months of trader’s kidnap

The family of Mr. Uchenna Okoro, a businessman who was abducted along the Enugu–Benue highway on March 10, 2025, has appealed for urgent intervention from security agencies, lamenting that his whereabouts remain unknown more than six months after the incident.

Okoro was reportedly kidnapped by armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen while travelling from Enugu to Makurdi.

Since then, efforts by his relatives to trace him have yielded no results, sparking fears that he may still be in captivity or worse.

In a statement issued by his brother, Mr. Frank Uzochukwu, the family and their Amanator community in Ebonyi State expressed deep frustration over what they described as government indifference to their plight.

“The Enugu–Benue road has turned into a death trap. If someone like Mr. Uchenna Okoro, a respected businessman, can vanish without a trace, then no one is safe,” the statement read.

The family recalled receiving ransom calls from the kidnappers shortly after the abduction, but said communication ceased after two weeks, plunging them into uncertainty.

“We don’t know if he is alive or dead. The silence is unbearable,” Uzochukwu said.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor any security agency has provided an update on the case, leaving the family in anguish as kidnapping cases continue to rise along the Enugu–Benue corridor.
