Former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has denied reports claiming he was appointed to lead a consultation team in the South West for a yet-to-be-announced campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
A statement reacting to the publication described the report, which appeared in one of the national dailies, as false and baseless, noting that it failed to indicate who made the alleged appointment or when and where it was made.
The statement also faulted the newspaper for publishing the story without verifying the claim or reaching out to Dr. Mimiko for confirmation.
“The falsehood in the report is obvious from the onset. It is just the work of a journalist flying with concocted rumours dressed as news,” the statement read.
It further noted that while Dr. Mimiko holds former President Jonathan in high regard, he has neither been contacted nor appointed for any such campaign effort, which remains largely speculative.
“As politics takes a more frenetic pace, such cooked stories will not be scarce as they concern political figures like Iroko who have chosen to remain low for now,” the statement added.
