The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday during a media engagement following a meeting of the newly inaugurated State Executive Council at the party’s secretariat in Molete, Ibadan.
Speaking at the event, the Oyo PDP Chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, praised Governor Makinde’s performance, describing his administration as a model of good governance worthy of national emulation.
Ogungbenro noted that Makinde’s achievements in the past six years, including regular payment of workers’ salaries and execution of key developmental projects, have earned him widespread public support and positioned him as a credible contender for the presidency.
“I believe Governor Seyi Makinde will emerge victorious at the forthcoming national convention and at the 2027 polls.
His track record in Oyo State—marked by transparency, accountability, and people-oriented leadership—proves that he has what it takes to transform Nigeria,” Ogungbenro said.
He assured that the PDP’s national convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, would be peaceful and historic, adding that the party remains determined to reclaim power in 2027 and restore democratic governance in the country.
“The agenda of the newly inaugurated executive council is simple — to deliver victory for the PDP in 2027,” he added.
Ogungbenro also urged Nigerians to renew their confidence in the party, stressing that only a PDP-led government could address the nation’s worsening socio-economic challenges.
“Inflation and insecurity have become unbearable under the current administration. Governor Makinde is the only leader with a clear vision to strengthen the nation’s economy and restore hope,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Oyo PDP expressed concern over rising insecurity in parts of the South-West, particularly recent attacks in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
“It is unfortunate. I received video clips of the attacks in Kwara State.
The federal government must act decisively to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” Ogungbenro warned.
Present at the meeting were the deputy chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke; publicity secretary, Michael Ogunsina; and other members of the newly inaugurated State Executive Council.
