The Nigerian Army has launched a disciplinary process against one of its personnel accused of causing the death of a commercial bus driver at a checkpoint in Ondo State.
In a statement posted on the Army’s official X handle on Thursday, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 32 Artillery Brigade, Major Njoka Irabor, confirmed that the soldier involved is already facing internal disciplinary procedures.
According to Irabor, the incident occurred on Sunday, October 13, 2025, at a military checkpoint in Akunu, Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
The victim, a commercial bus driver en route from Akure to Abuja, was said to have experienced mechanical issues near the checkpoint before the situation escalated tragically.
“The Headquarters, 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, has vowed to expedite action in the ongoing disciplinary measures against the soldier involved in the unfortunate death of the driver at Akunu,” the statement read.
The Army assured the public of its commitment to justice and transparency, emphasizing that the actions of one soldier do not reflect the values of the Nigerian Army.
