A fatal accident occurred late Saturday night at Obadore, inward Igando, along the LASU–Igando Road in Lagos, claiming the life of a commercial bus driver and leaving several passengers injured.
The incident, which happened around 11 p.m., involved a fully loaded Mazda commercial bus that rammed into a broken-down Private Sector Participant (PSP) waste truck parked on the fast lane.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, preliminary investigations revealed that the stationary truck was abandoned without a “C-Caution” sign or any visible warning to alert oncoming motorists.
“Upon receiving distress calls, the agency activated its emergency response plan from the Igando base. Investigations showed that the PSP truck, with registration number KSF 254 XV, had broken down on the Obadore Bridge without a caution sign, when a Mazda commercial bus, registration number LND 602 YE, loaded with passengers, collided with it,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He confirmed that the bus driver, an adult male, died instantly, while several passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
LASEMA’s Response Team cordoned off the area and implemented traffic control measures to prevent further accidents.
Medical personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to nearby hospitals for additional treatment.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu also disclosed that the deceased driver was a staff member of Lagos State University (LASU).
His remains were conveyed to his residence in a LASU ambulance.
The wreckage of the bus was later towed to the Obadore Police Station, and normal traffic flow has since been restored in the area.
