Tinubu’s aide faults Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer for joining protest

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has faulted Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, for participating in the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest organised by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore in Abuja.

Onanuga, in a post on his X handle on Monday, expressed disappointment over Ejimakor’s involvement, describing the protest as “shambolic.”

He wrote, “I spotted Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, among the small group of protesters mobilised in Abuja by Omoyele Sowore.

I wonder what Mr. Ejimakor was thinking when he decided to join this shambolic protest.”

The presidential aide argued that as a counsel in Kanu’s ongoing treason case, Ejimakor ought to know that taking part in demonstrations concerning a matter still before the court contravenes the principle of sub judice.

“As a lawyer, he should be aware of the principle of sub judice, particularly in relation to the ongoing treason case before the court.

The prosecution has concluded its case, and it is now incumbent upon Mr. Ejimakor and the other lawyers to mount a strong defence for Kanu,” Onanuga stated.

He accused Ejimakor of resorting to “extra-legal tactics” instead of focusing on building a solid defence, adding that the lawyer’s action was unprofessional and deserving of sanction.

“Ejimakor’s action questions his adherence to professional ethics. Legal authorities should consider appropriate sanctions for the unethical conduct of the bearded lawyer,” he added.

Earlier, PUNCH Online reported that the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, convened by Sowore, began around 7 a.m. near the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja before security operatives dispersed demonstrators with tear gas canisters.
