Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has denied reports suggesting that he snubbed the Aláàfin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade I, at a social event.
The clarification followed the circulation of a short video clip on social media, which some users claimed showed the governor ignoring the monarch.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the governor’s Special Assistant on New Media, Sunday Olugbenga Abire, described the claims as a misrepresentation of what actually happened.
Abire said Governor Aiyedatiwa holds the Yoruba traditional institution in high esteem and would never deliberately disrespect a royal father.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa is a proper Yoruba man, schooled in the fine philosophy of Omolúwàbí, and has always maintained cordial relations with traditional rulers in Ondo State and beyond,” he said.
He noted that the governor had demonstrated his respect for traditional rulers through policies and actions, including the construction and equipping of a modern secretariat for monarchs in the state.
The aide added that the administration has also handled matters relating to royal succession in a fair and transparent manner, reflecting the governor’s regard for the sanctity of the traditional institution.
Abire urged members of the public to disregard the social media speculation, saying those spreading the narrative were only attempting to stir unnecessary controversy.
“If the governor has never disrespected any king in Ondo State, it is illogical to suggest he would do so in Oyo State, where he has no personal stake,” he said.
He reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to fostering peace, respect, and cooperation among traditional rulers across the Southwest region.
