The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered a suspected baby factory and human trafficking syndicate operating in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayandade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the discovery followed a report by a 17-year-old girl, Vivian Peter, who escaped from the facility and alerted the police on October 21, 2025.
According to the statement, the teenager, who is from Ikot Ekpan in Akwa Ibom State, told police that she had been trafficked to Ore under the guise of a job offer.
Upon arrival, she was taken to a supposed clinic which later turned out to be a baby factory where several other pregnant girls were allegedly being held for exploitation.
She was later instructed by the suspected operator of the facility, identified as one Ada Clement, to go for a medical scan at another hospital in Ore.
However, she managed to escape and sought refuge at the Ore Police Division, where she reported the incident.
Following her report, operatives from the Ore Division, in collaboration with the Command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit, raided the facility and rescued five pregnant girls and a baby boy.
One of the victims had already delivered and is currently receiving medical attention at the General Hospital, Ore, while others are in police protective custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate was involved in selling babies to individuals seeking children, with male babies reportedly sold for ₦600,000 and above, and female babies for ₦400,000 and above.
The principal suspect, Ada Clement, and her accomplices have reportedly confessed to the crime.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation to ensure that all members of the syndicate are apprehended and prosecuted.
He assured that efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to intensify the fight against human trafficking, child exploitation, and gender-based violence.
“The Command remains resolute in its mission to protect the vulnerable and bring all perpetrators of such heinous crimes to justice,” CP Lawal stated.
