Group knocks Fayose, says ex-governor bitter after losing control

A political group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, the Ekiti PDP Progressives, has accused former Governor Ayodele Fayose of being frustrated after losing control of the party’s structure.

The group was reacting to Fayose’s recent remarks declaring the PDP “dead” in Ekiti State.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by its chieftain, Gani Salau, the group urged residents to disregard the former governor’s comments, describing him as a “conditional member” who would soon be shown the way out of the party.

Fayose, in an interview with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, said the PDP was “moribund” in the state and mocked the party’s four governorship aspirants, saying they were “fooling themselves.”

He asked: “Where is the PDP in Ekiti? Where are the party members? Where are PDP meetings being held? The party is totally moribund. There is no hope. The PDP is dead here in Ekiti.”

Fayose further threw his weight behind Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as the preferred choice of the people “till 2030.”

But the Ekiti PDP Progressives faulted Fayose’s outburst, describing it as “reckless and ungrateful,” saying the PDP gave him the platform to become governor twice.

The group said Fayose should “apologise to God” for speaking ill of the same party that “lifted him and gave his life meaning.”

Salau said the former governor’s anger was rooted in his inability to influence the party’s recently concluded congresses, which, according to him, stripped Fayose of control.

“He is bitter, having realised that the party is no longer in his custody as before, when he allegedly used it as a bargain to siphon from members,” Salau said.

He described Fayose as “a political orphan, naked without any reputation, moving from pillar to post in search of relevance,” urging the public to ignore his “ranting and vituperation.”

Salau further alleged that Fayose had turned himself into “an executive beggar” in Governor Oyebanji’s administration in exchange for monthly stipends.

He recalled how former Governor Kayode Fayemi once described Fayose as “ìrú wa, ògìrì wa” (an all-comer), noting that the ex-governor had failed to respond to the remark.

Salau maintained that the PDP in Ekiti had been repositioned ahead of the 2026 governorship election, adding that the party’s primary to elect its candidate would hold on Saturday.
