The Zamfara State Police Command has recovered a 10-day-old baby allegedly stolen from the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, leading to the arrest of a suspect linked to the incident.
The command described the development as a major breakthrough in its investigation into alleged child trafficking and illegal baby factory activities in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the case was first reported at the Kaura Namoda Police Division three days before the infant was eventually rescued.
Abubakar explained that hospital personnel on duty at the time of the incident were invited for questioning as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the newborn.
He said the baby was recovered on May 15, 2026, at about 8:35 a.m. in a nearby hamlet, whose identity was withheld for security reasons.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the child was found unharmed and had since been reunited with the biological parents.
He added that one suspect had been taken into custody and was assisting investigators, although the identity of the individual was not disclosed.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmad Bello, commended residents for providing useful information that contributed to the successful recovery of the infant.
Bello also reiterated the command’s resolve to tackle all forms of criminal activities in the state, assuring residents that further updates would be made public as investigations progress.
