The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued no fewer than 221 victims of human trafficking in Jigawa State within two years.
State Commander of the agency, Abdulladir Turajo, disclosed this yesterday during a one-day sensitisation campaign against human trafficking held in Kazaure.
Turajo said the victims were rescued and reunited with their families following the establishment of the state command in July 2023.
He added that within the same period, the command secured two convictions and carried out 175 sensitisation exercises across communities, schools, places of worship, motor parks and markets in the state.
The campaign, organised in collaboration with the Jigawa State Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, forms part of a statewide grassroots sensitisation initiative targeting stakeholders across the 27 local government areas.
According to Turajo, the exercise will be executed in three phases — with the first phase held in Kazaure for 12 councils in Jigawa Northwest, the second scheduled for Hadejia to cover eight councils in the Northeast, and the final phase to take place in Dutse for seven councils in the Southwest zone.
He reiterated NAPTIP’s commitment to curbing human trafficking and urged traditional rulers, community leaders and parents to join in the fight against the menace.
