The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that the Commissioner of Police disobeyed a court order concerning activities at the Nestoil premises, describing the claims as a calculated attempt to smear the Command and mislead the public.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the Command said the allegation, which has been circulated across several media platforms and echoed during a television interview, amounted to a distortion of facts aimed at provoking public distrust.
The police authorities maintained that the Commissioner of Police has consistently acted within the law and has never taken any step capable of undermining the authority of Nigerian courts.
They added that officers earlier deployed to the premises were withdrawn immediately after the court directive was received and authenticated.
“The allegations are untrue, unfounded and mischievous to mislead the public; the police personnel were withdrawn immediately. The court order was received and confirmed,” the statement affirmed.
The Command emphasised that the CP has always demonstrated unwavering respect for judicial processes, stressing that he would not, under any circumstance, defy a lawful order or ruling.
Reiterating its stance, the Command noted that “court orders are sacrosanct and must be promptly obeyed,” adding that the Lagos Police Commissioner remains firmly guided by this principle.
The statement urged members of the public to disregard the reports, insisting they were fabricated to erode trust in the Police Command and its leadership.
