Police dismiss viral herdsmen attack video as fake

The Rivers State Police Command has refuted widespread social media claims suggesting that herdsmen launched attacks in the state, insisting that a viral video sparking fear among residents is entirely fabricated.

In a statement released yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the circulating footage and accompanying rumours were baseless and crafted to mislead the public.

“The police command wishes to state unequivocally that these claims and reports are entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic among the public,” she said.

She warned residents against sharing unverified materials capable of portraying the state in a negative light, stressing that no such attacks had occurred in any part of Rivers State.

“The fabricated narrative is a deliberate attempt to undermine the prevailing peace and stability in the state.

“We urge the public to disregard this misinformation and exercise restraint in sharing unverified content that could spark unnecessary tension,” Iringe-Koko added.

Reassuring the public, the Command said it remained committed—alongside other security agencies—to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the state.

“Robust security measures are in place, including operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads. The public is advised to remain calm, be vigilant, and always verify information through official channels before sharing,” she concluded.
