A former British medical practitioner, Nathaniel Spencer, has been slammed with multiple criminal charges over alleged sexual offences involving 38 patients under his care, including a child below the age of 13.
Prosecutors disclosed that the 38-year-old, who practised in central England, is accused of committing several offences between 2017 and 2021 at two state-run hospitals in Stoke-on-Trent and Dudley.
Regional prosecutor Ben Samples confirmed that Spencer was charged with “a number of serious sexual offences allegedly carried out against patients while he was working as a doctor” in the region.
Samples added that the charges include “assault by penetration and sexual assault against a child”.
According to officials, the allegations emerged after investigators from Staffordshire Police conducted an extensive probe into reports from the affected hospitals. Samples said:
“Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation by Staffordshire Police, carefully reviewing the available evidence.”
He noted that they established “that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.”
Spencer, a resident doctor previously referred to as a junior doctor in the UK system — is facing a total of 33 charges, including 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 counts of assault by penetration and one count of attempted assault by penetration.
He is also accused of an additional set of offences involving a child under 13.
Authorities have not revealed the exact number of children allegedly affected.
Spencer is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on January 20.
