Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has explained that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was guided by what he described as a “spiritual assignment” tied to the state’s progress.
The governor, who formally announced his move to the ruling party earlier in the week, restated his commitment to aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s political direction.
He spoke yesterday at Government House, Port Harcourt, while receiving his APC membership card from the state chairman, Chief Tony Okocha.
Fubara said his decision was rooted in the need to support the President’s re-election project and ensure smooth cooperation between the state government and the Federal Government.
Describing the move, he said, “As you have said, this is indeed a spiritual assignment because it concerns the safety, progress, and growth of Rivers State.
“We cannot pursue a different direction when the President is pursuing another.
“Joining the APC is part of our commitment to ensure a seamless working relationship and to contribute meaningfully to his reelection efforts in Rivers State.”
The governor expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the reception accorded him, insisting that his switch was in the best interest of stability and development in the state.
He pledged his full support to the party structure and promised to strengthen the APC across the state.
“This is now your home, Mr Chairman. You are welcome here anytime. We will keep the APC active and fully functional in Rivers State, and every need of the party will be taken care of,” Governor Fubara assured.
